Lake Wanaka - a jewel of the South Island
On the edge of Mount Aspiring National Park, Wanaka is a thriving town amidst a rural, lake and mountain backdrop. The weather is continental meaning that the summers are hot and dry, and the winters are cold with snow blanketing the nearby mountains. It is an outdoors paradise with activities including fishing, tramping, climbing, yachting, mountain biking, skiing and canyoning.
